Dre is from Vallejo, CA, he debuted in 1989 with a 4 track EP called
Young Black Brotha EP. Mac Dre next released California Livin in 1991
and Whats Really Going On in 1992. In 1992 the Vallejo Police Department
started to think that Mac Dre was behind a series of robberies. Mac Dre
made a song called Punk Police where he named the head detective of the
case Sgt McCraw and taunted the police for their inability to solve the
crime. He said "You can't catch nobody, so what are you gonna do
frame somebody?" Mac Dre said he was threatened by the Vallejo PD and
personally told he would pay for the song. The FBI followed Dre and a
friend for 300 miles from the Bay Area to Fresno. The friend was wired
and recorded a conversation which the friend started about Dre wanting
to rob a bank. Mac Dre was arrested in Fresno and charged with
conspiracy to rob a bank after he drove near a bank. Mac
Dre was sentenced to serve five years in prison for a bank that was never
robbed.
Mac Dre
recorded the 1993 album Back n Da Hood from prison. Mac Dre was released
from Prison in 1996 and released the compilation The Rompalation. After
the Rompilation was released rappers who appeared on the Rompilation
were arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies. Mac Dre was
arrested for a song where he bragged about how he and the Romper Room
Gang had robbed a credit union. The problem was that the song was on a
compilation and did not feature Mac Dre on it. Vallejo Police thought
that it was Mac Dre rapping on the song Uninvited when it wasn't.
In 1998 Mac Dre released his first solo album for 5 years called Stupid
Doo Doo Dumb featuring Mac Mall, Dubee, Spice 1 and others. In 1999 Dre
released Rapper Gone Bad which contained the song Mac Stabber which
dissed Mac Mall. The Rompalation II was released in 1999 and in 2000
Heart Of A Gangsta, Mind Of A Hustler. In 2001 Mac Dre released the
group album Cutthroat Commitee - Turf Buccaneers, with Dubee and PSD.
Also in 2001 Mac Dre released Mac Dre Is The Name. In 2001 Its Not What
You Say, Its How You Say It was released. In 2002 Mac Dre released The
Rompalation 3 and Mac Dammit Man & Friends. Do You Remember was
released in 2002 on YBB. In 2002 Mac Dre released Thizzle Washington and
in 2003 All Boo Boo was released with a bonus DVD.
